Sherry Norfolk is an award-winning storyteller, author and teaching artist, performing and leading residencies and professional development workshops nationally and in SE Asia. Sherry performs in libraries for audiences of all ages, including Singapore National Library, Hawaii State Libraries, Anchorage Municipal Library, Miami-Dade Public Library, and libraries all over Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Missouri and Tennessee.

As a performing artist, she is a dynamic storyteller, telling well-crafted and age-appropriate folktales from around the world. As a teaching artist, she uses storytelling as a strategy for teaching preK-12th grade curriculum. Her new book, Boo-Tickle Tales: Not-so-Scary Stories for Ages 4-9 (Parkhurst Brothers, 2016) is lots of fun!

Summer Reading Programs

Sherry creates a variety of SRP theme-related storytelling programs each year, addressing toddlers, preschool, school-age, teen and family audiences.

Enlivened with character voices, sound effects and age-appropriate audience participation, each is high-energy, book-related, and fun – enticing listeners into the “theatre of the mind.”

Toddlers

Highly interactive, fun-filled storytimes, designed for both the parent and child to participate fully – demonstrating ways to engage children in books and the library, and help parents learn how to share books and language experiences effectively.

Preschoolers

Giggle-inducing, active and interactive, these energetic programs are designed to provide enjoyable, positive language- and literature-related experiences while building and enhancing emergent literacy skills and socializing opportunities for children ages 3-5.

School-age

Programs filled with stories, poetry, songs and age-appropriate participatory activities introduce kids to the wide variety of resources and materials found in the library through positive, FUN, book-related activities

Teens

Storytelling programs for teens and tweens include tales that enthrall the imagination and tweak curiosity — motivating teens to explore literature and become lifelong learners.

Family

Storytelling brings the whole family together! Sherry’s Family Programs are designed to meet the needs of your community, creating open invitations to the public to explore the wealth of materials and services available to them at the library.
